SWAP and JIT (Just in Time)

Recently, SWAP began a relationship with the Just in Time for Foster Youth (JIT) organization—an organization that assists, through life skill training and mentoring, young men and women (ages 18 to 26) who are aging out of the foster care system. Our relationship began in January when SWAP and JIT volunteers worked side by side to shop, cook and then serve dinner to approximately 80 homeless men at the La Posada men’s shelter in Carlsbad, CA.

Wanting to continue to nurture this relationship with JIT, SWAP is now in the early stages of planning a day at the beach, likely in May or June, to introduce the JIT members to surfing. SWAP will be working with volunteers from the Wounded Warriors program (who have generously offered to provide soft-top surfboards and wetsuits) with the hope of hosting 10 to 15 youth. SWAP is seeking commitments from enough volunteers to be able to provide one instructor/coach for each participant. Volunteers are also needed to help with set-up and serving lunch.
